How to find the cheapest fares

  • 1. Book online

Booking online is cheaper. Our Internet Advance tickets for services to/from London have £1 off when you book online. We also have no credit card charges, no booking fees and no reservation charges on any of our tickets. Use our Best Fare Finder to book online now and collect your ticket from the station.

  • 2. Book ahead

Register now for cheap ticket alerts. Our cheap train tickets are released two to three months ahead of the travel date and sell out quickly. Booking as early as possible gives you the best chance of being able to buy the cheapest ticket for the journey you want to make.

  • 3. Be flexible

If you can be flexible, our Best Fare Finder lets you quickly browse alternative times and dates of travel – immediately showing you the cheapest tickets that are likely to be available for each journey. You stand a better chance of getting a cheap train ticket if you travel after 0900 weekdays or at weekends.

Reasons why you may not be able to find a cheap ticket

If you are using the Best Fare Finder, it may display “no tickets” for some dates. We can only release cheap train tickets for travel on a particular date when we have confirmation from Network Rail that our services on that day will be unaffected by engineering works and track improvements. As a result, you may find that tickets for weekend and bank holiday travel are not always released in date order. We understand the inconvenience that this causes our customers – to help solve the problem, we can send you email alerts when cheap tickets go on sale. Register for alerts now.
